Between where he sleeps and where he buys his milk, a woman begs for money. She's there every day but he doesn't always see her.
Yesterday, caught in his own trauma, he felt the magnitude of hers. When he handed her a five dollar bill, her hand touched his. His eyes filled with tears.
Since then he's been sorting out what all this means. Everyone is so caught up in finding his own Einstein, he tells me, we don't learn from what is here.
i love that first image...

In very few words, you communicate a great deal here. I love your opening line. Thank you for sharing this. You're reminding me of a couple of short stories I wrote, about homeless men; but the story here is about the person who gave the woman a five dollar bill.
ReplyDeleteis finding his own Einstein the same as finding his own genius?
ReplyDeletehi maggie may-
ReplyDeletegood to hear from you. these photos were taken along the yellowstone river, just below flood stage.
hi pat-
i wanted the words to be as few as possible and yet speak as far as possible. good to hear from you.
hi annie-
good to hear you liked that first line- i was tempted to turn this to a poem. he hadn't expected to be so touched (in more than one way) by the exchange. all the while he thought he was helping her, she helped him more.
rox-
he's fun to talk to because he says things like that. i guess i have to admit to lifting his words. yes, we are all in pursuit of finding our own genius, be that what it might be, that we might not remember we are h e r e and notice and engage in what is all about at this very moment.
